Team Golf - play for a club team against local clubs:
SCRATCH TEAM
Porters Park have a tradition of strong scratch players.
The team have won leagues, tournaments and represented
the county at national level through the years. The scratch
team have been victims of their own success. Over the past
few years, many players have been selected for county
matches and even national events ahead of club matches.
The scratch squad is mainly made up of category 1
golfers, the lowest six all 1 handicap or better. Last
season the team were relegated from the top division, most
matches playing with a depleted side due to call ups. This
season has seen the scratch team bounce straight back up,
winning their division. Also the scratch team won the Herts
champion club at Brocket Hall and went on to represent
Hertfordshire in the national finals at Hesketh.
TIGERS
In 2000 four clubs got together to form a league to
provide competition for players with handicaps between 4 and
10.
Matches are played over 18 holes and very well suited to
players who enjoy competitive golf followed by a meal.
There are now six teams in the league and as the Tigers
League became more established and popular it was felt
another league was required. In 2006 the original league
became known as the West Herts League and the new league was
called the East Herts League which also consists of six
clubs.
Porters Park Tigers won the West Herts League in 2006 for
the first time which was a great achievement by all those
involved.
MENS SOCIAL GOLF
Social Golf and Foxes matches are played on mid-week
afternoons from April to September. Matches are followed by
dinner.
Social matches are open to all male members regardless of
handicap whereas Foxes matches are limited to handicaps of
10 to 19.
No leagues are involved although the aim is to play
competitively. We have ten fixtures with other local clubs;
each fixture consisting of both home and away matches. Wide
participation by members is encouraged.
COMMANDOS
The senior male members of the Club are known as the
Commandos. Any male member aged 55 and over is welcome to
participate in the various Commando activities throughout
the year. Apart from social events and matches with the
Club’s lady members, the Commandos play fifteen fixtures
both home and away against the senior sections of other
clubs. Selection for these matches is open to all Commandos. |
